We're Recruiting Registered Nurses
About Correctional Health
Mount Gambier Prison in South Australia is a low to medium-security campus-style prison that offers progressive work, learning and community programs to manage and rehabilitate offenders. With capacity for 653 inmates, it accommodates mainly male prisoners who have been sentenced or are on remand. G4S has been operating Mount Gambier Prison on behalf of the South Australian Department for Correctional Services for more than 20 years.
The Clinical Services team works within the prison's Medical Clinic and delivers health care that supports prisoner's wellbeing. G4S can support you to gain experience as a Registered Nurse in Corrections. If you would consider moving for the position, please ask us about relocation assistance.
The Clinical Services team at Mount Gambier Prison work in a busy medical clinic environment, and the work is mainly clinical work, which means no night shifts, heavy lifting, manual handling or personal care duties are required.
In many ways, the work is actually safer than hospitals, and support is always available for Registered Nurses treating injuries or illnesses, or delivering emergency care.
With one doctor, our Registered Nurses have scope and autonomy. They assess inmates' health upon admission and plan their health care post-release, issue medication, insulin and methadone on a daily basis, and treat injuries and illnesses. They also document progress notes and assist with case management.
Registered Nurses are paid according to the Registered Nurse Award Level 2.4 and earn an approximate annual salary of circa $80,000 - $90,000 based on the hourly full time pay rates below, which are inclusive of a $100 Mount Gambier Prison Nurse Allowance:
Weekdays - $39.60
Saturdays - $58.09
Sundays - $67.33
Registered Nurses work a rotating roster pattern of four days on and three days off each week, a total of 76 hours a fortnight, and either 8am to 6pm or 9am to 7pm.
In addition, they receive six weeks' annual leave.
Once you've applied online, one of our recruiters will arrange for you to have a quick phone screening with the Hiring Manager to find out more about you and discuss the role in more detail.
Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to attend a formal virtual or onsite interview.
If you're successful after the interview, the G4S Talent Acquisition team will then email you a series of items to complete and return:
- Your ID
- Pre-employment Health Questionnaire
- National Police and Reference Check Form.
Upon passing, you'll receive an employment contract plus a final set of Onboarding Forms to complete.
On your first day, you will meet your team, which includes a Clinical Services Lead, Registered Nurses, a Medical Administration Officer and visiting Doctors. A Qualified Correctional Trainer will then take you around the prison and demonstrate policies and procedures, security measures, and how to use your radio and keys.
Throughout your first week, you'll spend time shadowing an experienced Registered Nurse and learning how the Clinic works. Your team will support you as you gain more knowledge of the corrections system, the prison environment, and your tasks and duties.
