We're Recruiting Court Security Officers
About Court Security
Our security services at Court Services Victoria keep the courts and tribunals and the people who attend them safe, secure and orderly - in more than 70 courts across Metropolitan and Regional Victoria.
With so many Court locations across the state, it’s easy to imagine the environments vary. No two courts are the same, and court users themselves vary from court to court. There is more than 650km between Orbost, a small country court in east Gippsland and Mildura, a busy court in a major regional hub.
Fun Fact: The distance from Orbost to Mildura is almost double the distance between Paris and London.
Court security is crucial to the justice system and its wide range of stakeholders; it enables courts to concentrate on their vital function.
We strive to maintain the highest standard of security service to enable the seamless delivery of justice.

In the performance of their duties, Court Security Officers employ various intelligence, risk management, and mitigation strategies to identify and prevent potential incidents. They are responsible for managing x-ray screening and detecting and removing prohibited items from entering the court premises. During court sessions, they provide security and de-escalate potential incidents to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Court Security Officers are also responsible for maintaining detailed records and writing comprehensive incident reports. They escort vulnerable family violence attendees and conduct patrols in and around the facility, as a team and autonomously. In the event of a medical emergency, they are trained to provide First-Aid assistance.
Court Security Officers are essential members of the court and tribunal system who play a critical role in ensuring the immediate safety and security of court premises and all individuals present within.
Most Court Security Officers work between 8:30-4:30pm Monday to Friday and don't work weekends or public holidays. During non-sitting days where no court matters are being heard, they can also take advantage of reduced hours and take annual leave.
Within the Melbourne Central Business District and other headquarters in Victoria, some courts may be required to extend their hours of operation beyond the above-mentioned times. To satisfy the needs of the courts, opportunities to undertake night court and/or weekend duties may be available and penalty rates are payable.
Court Security Officers are covered by the Security Services Industry Award (SSIA). Full-time and part-time officers are paid $26.43 an hour and casual officers are paid $33.04 an hour.
CSOs are also entitled to annual leave, personal leave, and various other supplementary benefits, such as travel allowances and food allowances where applicable.
