We're Recruiting Mobile Speed Camera Operators
Mobile Speed Cameras
G4S partners with Transport for NSW to reduce road fatalities by providing a dedicated team of speed camera operators. The operation is a proven way to get drivers to slow down and the program saves lives. As well as tackling road safety, the revenue from fines goes towards upgrading roads for people in regional New South Wales.
By moving around to different locations at different times to detect speeding, we support the perception of ‘anywhere, anytime’ enforcement and boost police operations. In addition to encouraging safe and legal road user behaviour and minimising the risk of road trauma, our Road Safety teams allow police more time to enforce other important road safety issues such as drink and drug driving.
They perform pre and post shift vehicle inspections, collect and drive a vehicle to a scheduled and approved site, position the vehicle at the enforcement site using in-vehicle technology, perform a site risk assessment, photograph and report on site maintenance issues, and coordinate camera set up and testing with the control room, with whom they have regular contact. With direction from the control room, they also relocate vehicles and cameras between storage sites or the main depot.
While the in-field operator is outside the vehicle and actively monitoring for hazards from the public, our Quality and Compliance Operators provide a direct line of communication. They are available to respond immediately to duress alarm activations. All officers are trained to respond to angry and aggressive behaviour.
The work involves travelling alone through regional and remote locations, extended periods seated in a vehicle, and occasional overnight travel with accommodation provided.
