We're Recruiting Residential Support Officers

Explore a career as a Residential Support Officer, where safe, stable and secure accommodation reduces the risk of residents reoffending and returning to custody.

About Maribyrnong Community Residential Facility

This supported residential facility provides short-term accommodation for men exiting the prison system who would otherwise be homeless.  Placement at the facility is temporary and supports residents post-release or post-parole as they reintegrate back into the community.

Established in 2020 in partnership with Corrections Victoria (CV), Jesuit Social Services (JSS) and G4S provide onsite services.  CV in partnership with Jesuit Social Services provide an environment that is physically and psychologically safe and encourages residents to make prosocial decisions.  Onsite case managers assist residents with securing long-term housing and employment, and a nurse supports residents to access physical and mental health services.

G4S provides 24/7 Security to promote safety for people who live at the facility.  G4S offer a friendly face and light conversation for people on their exit from the facility or their return. Our security team comprises a Centre Manager, an Administration Manager, five Team Leaders and 18 Residential Support Officers who work together to ensure residents have safe, stable and secure accommodation.  This safe, stable and secure accommodation can reduce the risks that can lead to residents reoffending and returning to custody.

The facility includes single-room accommodation, shared communal facilities, living areas, kitchen, administrative offices and outdoor areas, and currently accommodates up to 42 people.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Victorian Security Licence?
Ideally, you will already have a valid and current Victorian Security Licence.  However, we will accept candidates who have completed their Certificate II or Certificate III in Security, and we can support you through the process of getting your Victorian Security Licence.  If we do support you getting your licence, you will be required to work with G4S for 12 months or more, or you will need to pay back the cost of the licence and any associated fees.
Are there any Correctional or Case Management duties required?
No, this role is primarily a security position, and no case management or correctional duties are required.  Jesuit Social Services provide this support to residents.  G4S provides front-of-house security, control room monitoring, visitor management and access control, and patrols.
What sort of residents stay at the facility?

All residents are risk-assessed based on their offending history and behaviour prior to being accommodated.  The facility does not house anyone convicted of a sexual offence or assessed as posing a significant risk to staff, other residents and the wider community.  Residents must agree to a Code of Conduct and are required to engage with support services while living at the facility.  A curfew for residents is in effect from 9pm to 6am.

G4S provides 24/7 Security on-site and any resident unable to satisfy the rules expected of them in the Code of Conduct cannot stay at the facility.  On average, residents stay at the facility for 3-4 months.
